When the 2012 inductees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame were announced recently, I had an especially sweet twinge for several of the names. I’ve been fortunate in my life to have had some exciting jobs and situations that allowed me to hang with super-cool, often famous folks. I’ve written about Adele a couple of times on assignment without ever listening to her in depth. With even just a cursory ear on her confirms that she does, indeed, have a great voice. That, alone, doesn’t make her God’s greatest gift in my book, though. There are numerous other singers I would prefer to listen to instead.

From Luther Vandross to Ray LaMontagne

Thanks to Spotify, I’ve been rummaging through the music of my youth. High school, in particular. Tunes like “Don’t Disturb This Groove” and “Holding Back the Years” totally transport me back to those confusing and tortured years of adolescence. Apparently, I was a big R&B fan back then.
