Say what you will about the 1970s. You can bash the fashion, criticize the politics, and curse the music all you want, but you could also buy a house for just over $25,000. Ten years later, that figure had tripled to top $75,000. By the time 1990 rolled around, the average home price was right at $150,000. The turn of the century took prices over the $200,000 mark.

Leave (insert name) Alone!

In my search for high-quality entertainment on the Internet, I recently started watching Alias back from its beginnings. I’m all caught up on Damages and Dexter, the new Weeds season hasn’t started up yet, so I was poking around for something to fill the void. The show’s not great, but I like some of the characters and that Jennifer Garner is about as adorable as they come. (Add in Lena Olin as her mom in season two and… HUZZAH!)

How Corporations Stiff Uncle Sam

When, in January, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of big corporations in the realm of campaign contributions, they leaned heavily — and greatly advanced the scope of — previous rulings granting corporations First Amendment protections. By granting companies equal status with citizens in the area of free speech, it seems that their equal status should extend into other arenas, as well.
